September 2011
The GORISK Scientific Network organized an 11-days expedition on top of Nyiragongo in order to study its lava lake. Seismometers, tiltmeter, CO2 , radon and T° sensors, coupled with a stereographic time-lapse camera system were installed to detect parameters that translate the permanent eruptive activity in the Nyiragongo main crater.
During the expedition, a documentary was made by journalists from RTBF (Belgian public TV channel) and will be available soon. This documentary was realized thanks to the support of the FNR-Luxembourg.
The following pictures and video show you the typical atmosphere of this amazing expedition. Have fun!
